President’s Pen

Our guild year has officially started.  Lots of educational, social and fun events are planned to include speakers, workshops, courses, retreats and shows.

We have a new home for our general meetings which is working well for us.  We now meet at the hall of St. Michael’s Anglican Church, at 709 7th St. in Canmore.  The meeting start time has changed to 7:30 pm.  Our library of quilting books is on shelves in an adjacent room, although our longer-term storage continues to be at the Recreation Centre.  The Recreation Centre will be undergoing major renovations over the next year and more.  We have been told that a storage area will be available for us once the renovations are completed.

Some changes have been made in how we operate, to reduce our annual operating costs and increase our revenue.  Over the next two years we will move to having a balanced annual budget.  Our main sources of income are membership dues, sale of raffle tickets for our annual raffle quilt, and a quilt show and sale every two years.  The support from members to increase our long-standing membership rate to $60 was greatly appreciated and will contribute significantly to a balanced budget.  We also expect an increase in revenue from our sales table at the fall show due to the major efforts of members to create a huge variety of items for sale.

Please check the calendar on this website regularly to see what activities and programs are being offered.  We are a very active guild with more than 60 members involved in art, modern and more traditional quilting.  We welcome visitors and new members throughout the year.
