Peter Byrne is an international award-winning modern quilter and teacher with a deep passion for innovation and design.  He loves making quilts and loves teaching others to quilt. He is known for taking a fresh approach to quilt construction and design, combined with technical mastery.  Find out more about Peter on his website:

Class Description:  Hover-quilting is a new form of raw edge appliqué, absent of fusible web. This innovative technique produces not only a beautiful controlled frayed edge but also creates the illusion of your piecing to hover above the quilt top.

In this class, students will move colour like never before! using HST’s in a new way to create several design elements such as ‘Cathedral Window’, ‘Pathways’, ‘Lattice Work”, and a ‘School of Fabric’.

On day one students will focus on preparing their quilt sandwich, make 36 HST’s and glue baste everything in place. On day two students will complete a 16-inch square mini hover-quilt and while doing so will learn the unique design elements that make this technique so versatile and creative.

Kits:  Peter’s Hover-quilting Kits have been made with Colorworks Premium Solids from Northcott Fabric and include beautiful prints from Northcott’s Artisan Spirit Collection called “Shimmer” and are paired with Cherrywood Hand Dyed Fabrics.

Kits also include a spool of 60wt Perfect Cotton-Plus thread, No Slip Ruler, Soft-Blend Batting and a Foundational Products Card from Quilters Select! (suggested retail on the Quilters Select products is valued at over $20!)

Kits are available for purchase and come with your choice of a White Background or Black Background and are $35 Dollars plus a $5 Dollar fee for shipping and handling.

The guild will be purchasing the kits in bulk to reduce shipping costs.  Please contact Siobhan with your choice of White or Black Background.

Your own kit:  If you prefer to put together your own kit, contact Ellen for the suggested supply list and fabric requirements.
